But The Private Shop in Chesterton Road, with its all female staff and licenced by Cambridge City Council, has managed to survive in a rapidly changing market which has recently seen the rise of the sex robot and online pornography. Many seekers of sexual pleasure would have ventured to Soho in London, but rising rents have pushed the sex industry out of the area in favour of family-friendly businesses and coffee shop chains.
But Lisa says Cambridge and surrounding towns still have a hunger for an adult store in Chesterton Road, which sells a wide range of videos and sex toys as well as lingerie and bondage kits. The store has had a recent revamp and Fifty Shades of Gray has boosted the fetish market for the shop.
And the store has turned to social media to raise awareness about its products, using Instagram and Twitter , and also offers followers discounts.
