Jim Bazen, the principal of Plymouth Christian High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan, made the controversial claims while arguing in defense of strict school dress codes that focus more heavily on female students than male ones. Writing for MLive , the year-old said that he is glad that his private school has instituted uniforms, but not because they eliminate distractions for all students equally.
Rather, he said, strict dress codes are important for easing young men's uncontrollable lust and preserving young women's virginity. Scroll down for video. Sexist rules: Jim Bazen pictured , principal of Plymouth Christian High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan, said that girls need to cover up so men don't treat them like sex objects.
Last week, The Grand Rapids Press wrote an editorial in which it asserted that school dress codes 'have a serious sexism problem'. The writers noted that, lately, there are more and more stories of female students being unfairly targeted for their clothing choices; more often than not in cases of school dress codes, administrators send the message that it is a girl's responsibility to eliminate distractions for her male classmates, rather than the boys' responsibility to show self-control.
Bazen, however, took issue with this belief, explaining just why these rules are so important when it comes to attire. He asserted that when a young woman is 'respectfully dressed', a young man will actually 'see her for who she is' - a person. When she is 'scantily clad', however, her male classmates will no longer look at them her as a person, but as a 'sex object'. Men, he added, can't help but lust after women - and women are responsible for controlling that lust.
Protective principal: He said that he's glad that his school pictured requires uniforms, because they help preserve girls' virginity. Our once pure minds are corrupted by the fall original sin ,' he explained, throwing up his hands at the prospect of male responsibility. He went on to object to the idea that telling girls to cover up does more harm than good.
