An Alabama ridesharing driver is facing multiple sex crime charges in two separate assaults months apart in Auburn. Theodore Leroy Halls, a year-old Opelika man, was initially arrested earlier this month on first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy and first-degree sexual abuse. The investigation into Halls began when a female reported to Auburn police that she was sexually assaulted on April The alleged sexual assault happened near the block of Aspen Heights Lane.
The victim reportedly came in contact with the suspect through a ridesharing service, police said. The investigation revealed that the victim was picked up by the suspect in the area of downtown Auburn after a ride was arranged through the ridesharing service. During the transport, the driver sexually assaulted the victim, police said. Records say the victim was incapable of providing consent but did not elaborate.
On Tuesday, police announced additional charges against Halls stemming from a similar incident that is reported to have happened in December He is charged with first-degree rape and first-degree sexual abuse in connection with the December incident.
Again, police said, the victim came in contact with Halls through a ridesharing service. Asked if the victims were college students, police said they are not releasing any additional details at this time.
