Santa Cruz residents are reacting with shock and disbelief over the news that popular surfing instructor Dylan Greiner was arrested over the weekend, accused of trying to have sex with students. Greiner, who is accused of lewd acts with minors, could make his first court appearance on Wednesday. There's really no debating that.
It's sad that he would take advantage of girls that were paying money to learn from him," said surfing instructor Courtney Howard.
Santa Cruz police said over four years, Greiner secretly videotaped young girls slipping in and out of wetsuits inside his dressing rooms. Detectives also said he videotaped and took photos of girls on the beach, some of them as young as 8 years old. Earlier this year, Greiner videotaped trash and used hypodermic needs that piled up inside drug dens along Cowell's Beach. His efforts helped stir the debate over the need for local needle exchange programs.
