Understanding how categories of gender and sexuality relate to race and racisms as well as to class, ability, cisgenderism, religion and nation will be central to the lecture series. Beyond diagnosing various forms of discrimination based on categories of identity, the lecture examines ways to promote anti-racism, trans-inclusivity and anti-ableism. Most importantly, the lectures will reflect on the present. The lecture series moves through topics of feminism s , gender, queer and trans theory and rights, race, religion, migration, and ableism as well as historical and current forms of discrimination in order to arrive at a discussion of our contradictory present.
Images of migration and flight influence migration policies, politics, and how we see ourselves as members of post-migration cultures in Germany and Europe. Yet migration itself remains highly contested, and debates surrounding migration are polarizing. At this moment, anti-migration rhetoric is being actively promoted by popular conservative nationalists in Germany, Europe and the United States.

You will need to feel comfortable analyzing explicit materials in this course as we ask if a pornification of culture has occurred. This series of interactive lectures covers major events in U. American cultural politics since the beginning of the new millennium. We will review these events and go over how the primary and general elections function in the United States so as to better understand what is at stake in the sixtieth presidential elections on November 5, Paying attention to the history of the presidency in the post-WW II period allows us to contextualize some of the central issues influencing the presidential and down-ballot races.
