Travel Forums Europe bratislava or budapest or both? Hi, I was wondering how you decided on Bratislava and Budapest. You are right about Bratislava.
There is not much to do. Budapest warrants about two nights. Prague warrants about 3 nights. The train journey from Prague to Budapest is an overnight journey. I hope this helps. I would certainly recommend Budapest over Bratislava. Took in both in the last few years - saw Bratislava in a day - Was in Budapest for 3 days and still didnt do everything that was there. Is a very beautiful city, and one that currently is not as touristy as it will be soon. It is the - for want of a better phrase - the new prague.
Very historic and cultural with lots of places to look at and lovely architecture. Surrounding places worth a look if u have the time are prague, cesky krumlov in the south of the czech republic - v different from either prague or budapest, much quieter, but very quaint and a great way to spend a day or 3. Krakow in the south of POland is great as well, loads to do. Prague is ridiculously cheap for beer and for food. I don't believe making any trips to the supermarket for food.
Eating out was a low-cost deal. Somehow, I did not have the same luck with low-cost meals in Budapest. I guess I was looking in the wrong places. I mean, the meals were not expensive, but I went to Budapest right after Prague so in comparison, it seemed a little pricier than Prague. If I were you, I'd just pick Prague. I had to pinch myself several times during the trip to make sure I wasn't dreaming when I was there.
