Virtuosic is the only word I can use to describe this miniseries, which stars its creator, writer and co-director, Michaela Coel β 12 ingenious, hilarious, heartbreaking and utterly delicious episodes, some of which almost function as standalones, before coming together to form a fascinating picture of contemporary life, love, friendship, creativity and trauma.

There are certain works that feel like they help give shape to the understanding of a generation, and with its acute sense of stalled promise, inequalities inherited at birth, and the difficulty of sustaining love across those chasms, Normal People , both the book and the show, feels like one of them.
