The Public Safety officers are well-trained professionals in first aid, defensive tactics, drug recognition, investigation, and emergency response. We work with the Minneapolis Police Department and other law enforcement agencies as necessary to respond to any situations concerning the safety of the Augsburg community.
Some of the services that are provided to the community are immediate response to medical emergencies, responding to crimes in progress or suspicious persons, and additional courtesy services, including escorts. The department is also responsible for the campus-wide Emergency Notification system. The Department of Public Safety operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on the Minneapolis campus. Officers make frequent patrols of all the academic buildings and parking lots. Suspicious persons or activity on-campus should be reported to DPS by dialing x from a campus phone, or from an off-campus or cell phone.
If you see a vehicle parked illegally, you may contact DPS at to request enforcement. Officers and student patrols are available for walking and driving escorts from on-campus locations to other on-campus locations, and to select-locations. Walking escorts from campus to campus locations are available 24 hours a day. Driving escorts between on-campus and approved off-campus locations are available from dusk until dawn. Driving escorts to medical facilities for non-emergency purposes are available 24 hours a day.
For a list of approved locations, time frames, and other information, please see our escort service page. DPS officers are available 24 hours a day to take reports from anyone who experiences a crime on campus.
Please contact to have an officer dispatched to your location. You may also make a walk-up report at the Dispatch Center. An online report system is available for certain non-emergency incidents; please visit our Report a Crime or Concern page to file an online report. You may also report a crime, suspicious activity or concern anonymously using the CampusShield app iReport feature.
