A woman is facing a murder charge months after police say she fatally shot her boyfriend outside her Grand Prairie home. Jail records show she is also charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Sherman called police and an ambulance to her home in the block of Miller Street, near Mountain Creek Lake, just before 10 p. Another caller said she heard gunshots, a woman yelling, and a man who "sounded hurt," according to the affidavit. An officer found Ricky Charles Bonner lying on the porch with two gunshot wounds to his chest, according to the affidavit.
Bonner, 35, was pronounced dead at the scene. Beseda described Bonner as Sherman's boyfriend. Police got a warrant for Sherman's arrest Jan.
Beseda said police initially questioned whether the shooting was justified, but eventually determined that it was not. Sherman had a protective order filed against Bonner, and police wanted to rule out the possibility that the shooting was an act of self defense, Beseda said. Bonner had a pending criminal trespass charge, in which he was accused of being on Sherman's property after she had told him to leave.
The criminal trespass charge, as well as misdemeanor charges of drug possession, deadly conduct, terroristic threat and a felony charge of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, were dismissed after he died, court records show.
