A sweeping sting on underage prostitution that resulted in arrests across the country is making an impact in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Operation Cross Country targeted pimps, buyers and people caught in prostitution. The FBI said the three-day undercover operation resulted in the arrests of hundreds of people across the United States, including seven large cities in Missouri and Kansas.
Seven pimps were arrested in the two states and two teenage victims were recovered. In all, 64 state and local charges, ranging from solicitation, promoting prostitution and drug possession, were filed. Michael Kaste, the special agent in charge of Kansas City's FBI office said the bust went beyond just using the Internet to target the crime.

A young woman named Nicole said she was 17 when she was drawn into the world of prostitution. She said that it can be hard to get out from under the control of a pimp. They get caught up in these cycles when they are dependent on this way of life. The FBI said Nicole's story is similar to those of thousands of teenagers in the country caught in the same horrific situations.
