I thought the best way was to sit and write a blog at Christmas time of our time here so far in Suva, Fiji. My last post was October 11, and I wrote about what you do when you do not have the essentials and our trip to Pacific Harbour.
Wow, reading back on these blogs I realise how much we have learnt and grown since these initial days here. Since these posts we have had Barry the Dog and Rascal the Cat arrive from Australia and they have settled into life in our compound quite well and seem to be happy living with us. Ane our housekeeper loves them dearly and pampers Barry.
During the first month living here I saw a Facebook post on a site that I follow from a lady asking assistance to foster a dog that she was taking back to New Zealand with her. This dog was once owned they ended up as a street dog there are many street dogs here and needed to be fostered to allow treatment for heartworm. I offered to take in this dog. Princess Titi arrived and joined our house. Barry and Titi get along very well. Barry has taught Titi how to play tug of war, chase, run away with the ball and the joys of having a soft toy all of your own.
It is nice to be able to meet with the ladies and talk about anything and everything. Every Friday there is a hospital trolley which is supplied by donations from Expats of toys, clothing for babies new born to toddlers โ onesies, knitted cardigans, socks etc.
All the money raised from this trolley goes directly to the CWM hospital to help pay for renovations, equipment or whatever the hospital needs. There is so much need here and you feel like you are a constantly putting your hand in your pocket to assist in some way and it does become emotionally exhausting. I have been told it gets easier, you become tougher as times go by.
