Police say a trespassing call escalated to a shootout between officers and two teens. The shooting is now under investigation. According to Assistant Chief James Skelton, police got a call at around 1 p. Officers at the scene went with the managers of the complex to a vacant apartment and knocked on the door. Management used a key to open the apartment, where they saw one of two teen suspects holding a weapon. When they saw the weapon, officers retreated and took position at the front and back of the complex.
According to Houston police, the teens then broke through an apartment window, fled to the back of the complex, and started shooting at police.
Two officers fired back, hitting one of the suspects in the upper body. Police only identified the suspects as a year-old boy and a year-old girl. The boy was shot in his upper body during the incident, and the girl suffered an injury to her leg from breaking through the window. Both teens were sent to a hospital for their injuries. Police say the two will be detained and charged for this incident. Body-camera footage of the shooting should be released within the next month, according to Chief Skelton.
The teens have not been named, and there is no update on their conditions at this time. It's also not clear if they both had weapons during the shootout with police. Three investigations are now open in connection to this officer-involved shooting. Until the investigations are complete, both officers who fired shots will be placed on administrative duty. Those two officers have not been named. Officer Skelton said one of them has been with Houston police for 13 years while the other has been with them for 30 years.
