Given the prices of most Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignons today, this is unquestionably a value. Loaded with notions of red plums, cassis, incense, and dried flowers, this beauty is full-bodied, seamless and super elegant, with fine, fine tannin, and a great finish.
The medium to full-bodied palate delivers fantastic freshness to the densely laden red and black fruits, supported by ripe, grainy tannins, finishing long and savory. Yount, from whom the town of Yountville takes its name. Purchased by Charles Hopper and given to his daughter Missouri in , the land was planted to wine grapes and, as much of the Napa land was at that time, prunes and walnuts.
Purchased by Beckstoffer Vineyards from the Kelham family in , the vineyard is today planted with multiple clones of Cabernet Sauvignon. In , the property was placed under a land conservation easement that forever prohibits non-agricultural development. The nose shows rich strawberry, blackberry and chocolate notes that open up on the palate to a silky ripeness with excellent density. Velvety tannins support the full body and allow the long, fruit-filled finish to bloom. The nose offers a full array of dark cherry plum and currant berry fruit with cedar, fresh earth and cigar box spice, very complex bouquet.
A plush and velvety wine on the tongue with layers of fruit, earth and spice with a long layered finish and a firm hand of acidity holding things in place. Beautiful after a few hours in a decanter but really needs another years in the cellar.
