An year-old man was arrested after authorities said he exchanged gunfire with a Mohave County sheriff's deputy in a small residential area north of Lake Havasu City near the Arizona-Nevada border. Anita Mortensen, a department spokesperson, said deputies responded to a home at the census-designated area Golden Shores on Sunday evening after receiving calls about a disturbance when Edward Larence Chemleski of Topock exited the home and shot at a deputy. Mortensen said the deputy returned fire prompting Chemleski to retreat into the home.
Chemleski eventually left the home without the firearm and was arrested. Neither Chemleski nor the deputy were injured.
Chemleski was booked into jail on one count of attempted second-degree murder. Mortensen said the Kingman Police Department would investigate the shooting, noting it was standard protocol for an outside agency to investigate these kinds of shootings. Mortensen did not identify the deputy who fired their weapon. This article originally appeared on Arizona Republic: Deputy unharmed after shooting standoff north of Lake Havasu City.
