The emphasis is on the interfaces of enterprise applications and information systems. The related standards are briefly reviewed. An object-oriented architecture based on advanced user agents is proposed and two pilot implementations are described. The last 40 to 50 years' history of factory automation based on electronics and computer technology had given experiences on successes and failures. The author's personal carrier has touched several areas of technology and networking aspects of this progress domain. Telecommunication networking for industrial cyber-physical systems, IIoT and the automotive sectors are investigated.
The work presented in this paper consisted on the integration of several areas within a factory by using different communication standards. The described implementation satisfies several types of requirements, which include not only the functional requirements, but also the preservation of previous investments.
The fulfilment of the latter imposed the use of heterogeneous technologies, both in terms of vendors and generations. This resulted in additional difficulties for the integration that were overcome. The CAMX Framework is presented as a set of standards for communications in the electronics assembly industry. The communications layer is studied, and challenges involving scalability, security, and Quality of Service are discussed.
