This region is treated in a simplified manner as a cultural and geographic belt dividing the sands and rocks of the Sahara from the forested area of Africa. The intent of this series is to bring together geographers, archeologists, ethnologists, linguists, culture specialists, political scientists, economists, sociologists, and all others engaged in the study of this region of Africa. The texts presented in the second volume therefore do not have a thematic unity.
Their order of presentation in this volume traces the direction from west to east Africa. The example of Muridiya concerns Islam in what was once Senegambia. The next two texts, authored by Nigerians Aboreng Useni James and Joseph Gotus Jilong, tell of the difficult social, religious, political, and economic situation in northern Nigeria, which is also struggling with religion-inspired terrorism.
The succeeding text, by JarosΕaw RΓ³ΕΌaΕski, takes us a little bit to the east again, to northern Cameroon. The article, entitled Translations of Biblical Texts into the Gidar Language Northern Cameroon is on the history and difficulties of translating biblical texts into the language of the small Gidar nation.
