As a woman, oftentimes okay, one TOO many times , I hear or read men say something that really makes me wish we women could live in Barbie's dream world. During a recent internet scroll, I came across this tweet that seemed like one of those things that made guys giggle and women want to hurl something at them.
As seen in the tweet, a guy is annoyingly leaping in the air because his girlfriend just went through the painful experience of getting an IUD inserted. Most likely, we can assume the guy is happy because this probably means he could throw out that dusty box of condoms in his end table drawer and have unprotected sex with his girlfriend without worrying about her getting pregnant. I know, I know If you're unfamiliar with what exactly an IUD is, it's a small, T-shaped device inserted into a woman's uterus that provides birth control for 3 to 10 years.
It's oftentimes an uncomfortable or excruciating experience for those getting it inserted, and like with anything, it comes with a slew of potential side effects. Keep in mind that everyone's body is different, and IUD insertion and its side effects might affect people differently. It's important to note that there are two kinds of IUDs: a copper one that doesn't contain hormones but will prevent pregnancy by creating 'a toxic environment' for sperm.
The other IUD kind is one that has hormones "which cause the cervical mucus to thicken, which prevents the sperm from getting into the uterus and reaching an egg," according to Yale Medicine.
