Marquette is located near downtown Milwaukee. Being an urban campus there will always be issues with certain areas. Overall Milwaukee is a pretty safe city, but like with any city late at night you are safer walking in groups. MU also offers their students a limo service in case they do not feel safe walking to campus.
Overall my S has enjoyed school and the city and has never felt unsafe. These links might help with your questions and include a virtual tour. This area just north and west off campus is where most upperclassmen choose to live. I do recall that if one went further north or west than this area, then the neighborhoods got a little more dicey. However, there really is no reason a student would need to be that far off campus anyway. Traveling east from the campus, is downtown Milwaukee and all that has to offer.
It also seemed safer than many of the other colleges we saw recently Fordham, Johns Hopkins, Syracuse, Loyola Chicago to name a few if you are familiar with any of those. The Milwaukee Police also patrols the area. These two programs run daily from something like 5pm to midnight for the walks and to 3 or 4 am LIMO. They extend to the nearby off campus area as well. My second question is related to the alumni network I realize that both of you are alums. How extensive is the alumni network outside of WI and IL?
Also, what about reputation? I have to confess that until this round of this is my second of three rounds college applications, I had heard very little about Marquette. However, there are 40 or so different alumni chapters located throughout the country, including ones in the major metropolitan areas on either coast. In any case, I do think Marquette is highly respected.
DD also received the Ignatius Scholarship of 10K per year. We are very excited for him. I ask because 14k is the highest amount I have seen given out so far.
