Several items of clothing, including hiking boots, were also missing. Her husband reported her missing to the authorities. Britta was considered extremely reliable, so her disappearance and failure to report were unusual.
Despite extensive searches by many officers, Britta was not found. During the investigation, authorities discovered the house had video surveillance.
Upon examining the recordings, they discovered that the footage had been tampered with, and some were missing.
Further investigation revealed that only Britta and her husband had access to the surveillance system, which led the authorities to suspect that the husband might have played a role in his wife's disappearance.
